Health Tip of the Day
A recent 10 year Harvard Study of 138,000 women found those who consumed 2 or more ounces of walnuts per week (about 28 halves) had a 24% lower risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes. Researchers suggest the positive health benefits of walnuts may be attributed to their fiber, plant protein, and polyunsaturated fats (specifically alpha linolenic acid), which help improve insulin sensitivity and lower cholesterol. Walnuts are also an excellent source of Vitamin E and antioxidant polyphenols. To maximize health, investigate adding walnuts to a healthy diet if nut allergies are not an issue.
